We've Moved....and Bought Another Boat (almost)

Well, after a year squatting at my in-laws place in Florida, we finally moved into the realm of rental houses. We are renting a house by the Sound in Connecticut until the end of June. It's an academic rental, so the house comes furnished and we only get to stay in it until the start of summer (July here). It works out well for us because we were able to leave our furniture in Florida while we get this boat thing out of our systems, and don't have to pay to store things.

The boys are in school for the year (Cooper in K and Cole in 4th). Cole has only been to school for K, so all his knowledge has come from me homeschooling him.
It's been a tough transition for both of us, but in the end I think it is good for both of us. That doesn't mean I'm not schooling him at all, I can't let go of that completely. We are "afterschooling". I will be beefing up his public school knowledge with more math, grammar and writing skills so that when we do set off again in the near future, we are not too far from the place we left off.

Well, we spent a year in Florida mainly to sell our old boat, but also to look for a new one. We sold our old 37' steel monohull in very short order (she was a unique boat), and had decided before we got back from the Bahamas that we need something larger and more level, and that a catamaran would be just the thing. Well wouldn't you know that as soon as we're packing bags to leave Florida we find "the one". We had looked at newer boats (but we could only afford the 38' models) and then we found a 42' older boat that needs tons of work (I swore I wouldn't do that again, but I'm a sucker for a bargain). I'm very excited about it, but we haven't signed the papers yet, so in order not to jinx anything, I will keep the details out until the survey is over and we know the purchase is going through. I do feel pretty confident that things will work out.

For some reason, being in New England makes me more excited about sailing again than I ever felt in Florida. I have no idea why. We haven't decided if we will bring the boat all the way up here, but we have resources up here that would help us get her ready faster, although I don't think we want to winter on her - so we'd only be here for the summer. When we left on our first boat Noka, we left Old Saybrook, CT after the first week of November. That was one COLD trip down to Florida without an enclosed cockpit. We had so much condensation on the boat that my then 3 year old Cooper, said he would never sail again because he doesn't like it when the boat drips on him.

Well, I plan to log everything that happens once we get this boat. We will have lots of surprises I'm sure and lots of work to do. But, we did it once before and I'm sure we can do it again.
