Still Hanging out in Charleston

Heading to the beach near Fort Moultrie

It's warming up here now and we've been able to turn off the heaters (at least during the day) and open the hatches.  It feels good to have some warm wind blowing in  at last! The motivation level to get things done is greatly improving. We've been trying to decide whether to head south soon so we can be in a warmer place and be able to work on the boat better, or to stay here where we have a car and access to a lot of cool things to see and do.  A couple other pluses to being here is the active homeschool group that has allowed us to meet new friends/kids and participate in some fun activities.

Last night we went to the observatory at the College of Charleston. Once a month every month they open it to the public and set up several high-power telescopes on the observing deck of their science building. They also have other fun activities and demonstrations set up in the classrooms downstairs. We weren't early enough to spend a lot of time in the classrooms, but we did go check out the stars. It was a warm and clear night last night and we were able to see wonderful views of the moon, the Orion Nebula, and Jupiter and its 4 moons (all were visible).  In the observatory, the telescope was set up to look at the Orion Nebula and with it's high-power we could actually see some gas clouds in it. Very cool!  We may just have to stay here a little longer.
